Karnataka braces for heavy rains, orange alert issued

For Bengaluru and other districts of Karnataka, predicting widespread rainfall over the next two days. This means that isolated very heavy rains in the range of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm are likely to occur.

The districts that have been placed under orange alert are:

• Udupi
• Uttara Kannada
• Chikkamagaluru
• Kodagu
• Shivamogga
• Bengaluru Urban
• Bengaluru Rural
• Kolar

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for the following districts:

• Bagalkote
• Belagavi
• Dharwad
• Gadag
• Haveri
• Vijayapura
• Yadgir
• Chamarajanagara
• Davanagere
• Hassan
• Mandya
• Mysuru

The yellow alert means that isolated heavy rains in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm are likely to occur.

The IMD has advised people to take precautions and stay safe during the rains. They have also advised people to avoid going to areas that are prone to flooding or landslides.
