India Makes History with Successful Moon Landing
Chandrayaan-3, India's third lunar mission, successfully soft-landed on the Moon's south pole on Wednesday,

August 23, 2023. The lander, Vikram, and the rover, Pragyan, touched down at 6:04 PM IST (12:30 PM GMT).
The landing was the culmination of a years-long effort by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023, and spent the next month in orbit around the Moon. On August 22, it began its descent to the surface.
The landing was not without its challenges. Vikram experienced a communication blackout during the final moments of its descent, and its landing site was not precisely where ISRO had intended. However, the lander and rover were both able to safely touch down, and ISRO has declared the mission a success.
Chandrayaan-3 is the first mission to land on the Moon's south pole. This region is of particular interest to scientists because it is thought to contain large amounts of water ice. The lander and rover will spend the next few months exploring the south pole, searching for water ice and other resources.
The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 is a major achievement for India. It is the country's fourth lunar mission, and its first soft-landing on the Moon since 2019. The mission is a testament to India's growing space capabilities, and it will help to advance our understanding of the Moon.
