India-Need 1.32 million charging stations by 2030

According to a report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India will need 1.32 million charging stations by 2030 to support an estimated 100 million electric vehicles.

India-Need 1.32 million charging stations by 2030

This would mean an average of 1 charger for every 40 electric vehicles.

The report also found that the country currently has only 5,234 public charging stations. This means that there is a significant gap between the current number of charging stations and the number that will be needed by 2030.

The government of India has taken some steps to address the lack of charging infrastructure. In 2019, the government announced a plan to install 2,700 fast-charging stations across the country. The government has also announced plans to provide subsidies for the installation of charging stations.

However, more needs to be done to accelerate the deployment of charging infrastructure in India. The government needs to provide more incentives for the installation of charging stations, and it needs to work with private companies to build a network of charging stations across the country.

Here are some of the challenges that need to be addressed in order to increase the number of charging stations in India:

  • High cost of installation: The cost of installing a charging station can be high, which can be a barrier for some businesses.
  • Lack of awareness: There is still a lack of awareness about electric vehicles in India, which can make it difficult to convince businesses to install charging stations.
  • Regulatory challenges: There are some regulatory challenges that need to be addressed in order to make it easier to install charging stations.

Despite these challenges, there is a growing momentum for the adoption of electric vehicles in India. As the number of electric vehicles on the road increases, the demand for charging stations will also increase. The government and private companies need to work together to address the challenges and accelerate the deployment of charging infrastructure in India.
