Meta Announces $250k Grant for Launching Mixed Reality Program

The program aims to empower Indian startups and developers by providing them with the necessary resources to create innovative apps and experiences using Meta's Presence Platform.

The Presence Platform, an assemblage of cutting-edge machine perception and AI capabilities, plays a crucial role in Meta's vision of the Metaverse and is specifically tailored for the Meta Quest Platform. By introducing this grant, Meta endeavors to foster a thriving ecosystem of extended reality technologies within India, promoting innovation and growth.

Through the program, up to five talented Indian developers and startups will be selected as beneficiaries, receiving not only financial support but also valuable mentoring and guidance from Meta's experts in Reality Labs. Participants will have the opportunity to integrate themselves into Meta's developer ecosystem and showcase their products on the Quest App Lab. Additionally, Meta plans to facilitate introductions between selected startups and prominent local venture capital funds upon completion of the program.

This announcement follows Apple's recent unveiling of its own entry into the mixed reality arena with the Vision Pro headset, slated for release in 2024. Recognizing India's potential to possess the world's largest developer base by 2024, Meta's Vice President for India, Sandhya Devanathan, views the program and grant as a significant acknowledgment of the country's burgeoning innovation and emerging technology landscape.

Meta's Presence Platform boasts an array of technologies and design elements that empower developers to create captivating mixed reality experiences, seamlessly merging virtual content with the physical world. The company proudly asserts that some of the most popular apps on Quest already incorporate various capabilities of the Presence Platform.

Overall, Meta's launch of the Mixed Reality Program, complemented by the substantial $250,000 grant, signifies a pivotal step towards nurturing India's technological advancement and propelling the nation's presence in the ever-evolving mixed reality space.
