Daimler India CV Urges Government to Follow AC Cabin Rule

has welcomed the government's decision to make AC cabins mandatory for trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3.5 tonnes and above. However, the company has also urged the government to follow this up with mandatory crash test norms for CVs.

In an interview with ET Auto, Satyakam Arya, managing director, Daimler India CV, said that AC cabins would make driving more comfortable for truck drivers, which could lead to a reduction in accidents. However, he also pointed out that crash test norms are essential to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers in the event of an accident.

"AC cabin rule should be followed by crash test norms for CVs," Arya said. "We have been demanding crash test norms for CVs for a long time. The government should take a holistic view and introduce both AC cabin norms and crash test norms together."

The government's decision to make AC cabins mandatory is a positive step, but it is important to ensure that the safety of drivers and passengers is not compromised. Crash test norms would help to achieve this goal.

According to a study by the Indian Foundation for Road Safety, over 5 lakh people die in road accidents in India every year. Of these, around 1 lakh are truck drivers and passengers. Crash test norms would help to reduce the number of fatalities in road accidents involving CVs.

Daimler India CV is not the only company that has welcomed the government's decision to make AC cabins mandatory. Other CV makers, such as Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors, have also welcomed the move. However, they have also urged the government to introduce crash test norms for CVs.

It is hoped that the government will take these concerns into account and introduce crash test norms for CVs in the near future. This would help to make CVs safer for drivers and passengers, and would also help to reduce the number of road accidents in India.
